Autumn Quarter 2003

I had a quarter project for Material Science that took up an enormous amount of my time. Here's some photos and info summing it up.

A small taste of my Material Science course. We had to find and buy our own materials. We got aluminum, alloy steel, titanium, and bronze (top to bottom) One of the tests we performed to find out its material properties was a Tension Test. Its put in this large machine which pulls the samples apart slowly.

The samples after they broke. By looking at how they broke and such, you can tell how strong a material is. These were broken by cleaving them with a big hammer. Fun stuff!

Steel under a 50X microscope. Titanium under 50X microscope. Smaller grains mean stronger material. Look how small they are compared to steel or brass.

Brass under 50X microscope. Brass mostly sucks, which is partially due to the large grains. Emma and myself before my concert with the University Singers.

A pretty nice shot using the auto timer.
