The main control room of the powerplant. The turbines here are extremely loud. It sounds like a jet engine running at high idle.

This shot pretty much sums up 90% of the power plant. A veritable maze of ducts and tubes in large yet cramped rooms. The floors are a dark red to easily hide any stains and spills, same as Chinese restraints. No joke.

Hmm, these shafts are used occasionally for maintenance, just be sure the steam is turned off. As seen in the above photo, locating leaks is usually a trivial task.

These long walkways run the entire length of the UW underground. The steam power plant serves as a heating source for the whole campus by pumping hot steam through the buildings. Same as left photo, just no flash.

We're currently about 20+ feet underground, so technicians have to do a lot of climbing. The funniest thing is that this 4ft wide flat screen monitor wasn't hooked up to anything, and its located in the employee lounge. Good spending of taxpayer dollars. =D

More Power!
