*Disclaimer*: Most of these songs are not currently online, as I have limited webspace.
Sanctus
from Requiem op.48
Gabriel Faure
Getting bored with all the classical songs up? I hope not. Currently up is one of the pieces of music performed at the Winter Concert by the University Singers, of which I was a member. Just for fun, I put up two copies of the song, one performed by a professional choir and orchestra, one is the school recording. Vote in the poll for which you think was which!
Jupiter,
the
Bringer of Jollity
Holst
Holst composed one of the best classical collections of all time; the Planets. Though the most famous piece is probably Mars, which I'll put up at a later time, my favorite is Jupiter. Listen to the whole piece, the best part is at about 3 min in. It's beautiful.
Prozak
Dexter Freebish
Big thanks to Siko for lending me this CD. I've been listening to it non-stop for about the past week. There wasn't a song on their I didn't like. Listen to Prozac for a nice pick me up, or if you prefer well written lyrics, listen to Twilight.
Battle
Without Honour
Tomoyasu Hotei
Ever listen to the Kill Bill Soundtrack? It is utterly awesome. I promise you'll enjoy it. As a bonus, here's The Lonely Shepherd, another classic.
Tunak
Tunak
Daler Mehndi
Daler Mehndi is a world famous musician, especially known for his crazy music videos where he is dancing around throwing around fireballs and the like. Check him out! Its really catchy!
Undone
Josh Joplin Group
Though their only chart topper was Camera 1, the Josh Joplin actually has many other great, thoughtful songs. Check out their new CD if you can. Too bad Clear Channel doesn't play more stuff like this.
Eye
of the Tiger
Rockapella
When Gavin visited us over the summer, he brought with him tons of Rockapella songs. It's really amazing, what Rockapella is capable of doing. Also listen to my favorite, You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch. The bass singer is insanely good.
Age
of Aquarius
5th Dimension
Mention Age of Aquarius to anyone over 40, and they'll know you're talking about this song. This was the first and best song in the 2001 Variety show. Aquarius Pride!
Yoko Kanno
Like Bebop at all? This instrumental piece is the theme song of the Anime, Cowboy Bebop. Great instrumentals backed with a catchy bass line really make this song sizzle.
Voodoo
Child
Jimi Hendrix
This song rocks, plain and simple. I know a lot of you like to poo poo oldies, but most of you have no idea what you're missing. I'd really love to learn guitar someday
The
Joker (Space Cowboy)
Steve Miller Band
I was first introduced to this song while watching an episode of "That 70's Show". It reminds me a lot of someone I know who attends BU . . .
I
See Stars
Robin Fox
A bleak electronica song, I was first introduced to this song inside Truong's car.
Angels
and Devils
Dishwalla
Dishwalla's new cd, Opaline, is worth buying. This song has some guitar which sounds a lot like U2. Other good songs include Somewhere in the Middle and Opaline.
James
Bond Theme
Moby
You've probably heard the James Bond theme before, but not like this. You can almost be in an Aston Martin, racing through the Swiss Alps.
Save
Me
Remy Zero
The theme of Smallville, this song has an extremely catchy chorus. Somebody saaavvee meee!
Nessun
Dorma
Puccini
If you haven't seen any operas, or even think that you hate opera, please humor me and listen to this short piece. From the opera Turandot, this is one of the best opera themes ever.
Show
me your Firetruck
Hans Zimmer
You know and love the show Iron Chef? Well, here is the epic theme from the show! It originally was written by Zimmer for the movie Backdraft. You can check out more info on the Iron Chef music here.
Bittersweet
Symphony
Verve Pipe
Not many rock artists have an orchestra accompanying them, but when they get things right, you have a wonderful combination like this song.
Porcelain
Moby
Eerily Beautiful and Calming. Moby is by far one of the most innovative artists alive today. I only recently discovered his works, and have been trying to get as much of his songs as I can.
Black
or White
Michael Jackson
This song has an unique introduction and then goes into its extremely catchy tune. Say what you will of Michael Jackson, but he is hands down one of the most talented artists ever.
Aqueous
Transmission
Incubus
Not only a cool song name, Aqueous Transmission has an extremely unique feel too it. Definately one of Incubus's most innovative pieces.
Time
Hootie and the Blowfish
Admit it, they have one of the best band names of all time. Hootie and the Blowfish write with a very laidback and casual feel to their songs. Great stuff for just hanging out.
Too
Bad
Nickelback
Sort of a mix between country and angry rock, this is a good song for releasing pent up anger.
Living
in the Fridge
Weird Al Yankovic
Based on Aerosmith's "Living on the Edge", which I might mention is also an awesome song, Living in the Fridge is an absolutely hilarious song. This is the first but certainly not the last Weird Al song you'll see here.
Storms
in Africa
Enya
One of Enya's more famous songs, this song isn't to be confused by "Rain in Africa"by Toto. A very tranquil song (what Enya song isn't?), it's really good for relaxing after a stressful day.
Question
Everything
8 stops 7
The lead
singer sounds like Nickelback, don't you think? This one hit wonder really
makes you reminisce on the past
Bad
U2
Surprise surprise! Another U2 song! I really like how it builds up to the "Awake" part.
Motorcycle
Driveby
Third Eye Blind
Third Eye Blind has a truly unique sound; they seem to be able to create songs that really break out of the traditional ABABC mold of most modern rock songs, yet still sound fantastic.
Find
Your Way Back Home
Dishwalla
Dishwalla is my favorite Christian band. It's a pretty tough call between them and Jars of Clay, but I think Dishwalla has a more upbeat feel to their songs.
Hey
Jude
Beatles
If you don't know this song, start listening to the Beatles! A slow song with an uplifting message. You can start to make it better.
It's
All Been Done
Bare Naked Ladies
An extremely talented and creative group that often has undeserved assumptions placed on them due to their not so kosher name, they've written a very upbeat song that's bound to cheer up no matter how bad you feel!
My
Sacrifice
Creed
Even though Creed has a very hard grunge guitar sound to it, the issues their songs deal with are very deep and personal. A great song for reminiscing.
Champagne
Supernova
Oasis
A very tranquil, clean sounding song. This song really makes me feel nostalgic about how so many things change, and yet they somehow remain the same.
Magic
Carpet Ride
Steppenwolf
This is an "oldie" but it's really good. Whenever I hear this song, it makes me wish I had a motorcycle.
Hey Jealousy-Gin Blossoms
This group reminds me of the Goo Goo Dolls, though a little more upbeat. This is a very catchy song that I often find myself humming it for no good reason.
Gravity-Josh Joplin;
Though Josh Joplin is only known for the song "Camera One", they are a decent group with other good songs. This song reminds me of "Perfect Day" by Collective Soul.
In Too Deep -Sum 41;
Ever see the music video for this song? Pretty crazy stuff. I really like the guitar solo in the middle of the song. Stuff like that makes me wish that I could play.
Fields of Gold -Sting;
I was introduced to this song by Emma. Good music to listen to when you're feeling down.
My Madonna-Dexter Freebish;
She's the leader of her own world order,
She's a legend in my own mind
She's the goddess of her own religion
My Madonna, and I still can't believe she's mine
I'll Be- Edwin Mccain;
Angel of Harlem-U2;
Carefree and content. Isn't the world beautiful?
Giving In- Adema;
An angry rock song with a fantastic intro. They sound a lot like Linkin Park, but less techno-ish.
One- U2;
What's this? Another U2 song? Gosh, they must be really good or something. =)
Clair de Lune - Claude Debussy;
In times of stress and trouble, try this piano piece. Great music to relax or fall asleep to.
Superman - Five for Fighting;
One of the prettiest songs ever, it almost made me cry the first time I heard it. This is a song for everyone.
Hands - Jewel; (9/11/01)
We need calm and rational thought during crisis like these. Go out and love your fellow man, for hatred benefits no one.
Paper Cut - Linkin Park;
Linkin Park is a relatively new group, but they have written the best angry music I've heard. What really sets them apart from other angry rock music bands is their fantastic lyrics and vocals. If you haven't heard them before, you don't know what you're missing.
Smooth Criminal - Alien Ant Farm;
Originally a Michael Jackson song, this awesome head banger was redone by Alien Ant Farm. A real fun song to listen to. Make sure sing along with the "oh no's" in the late part of the song =)
Everywhere- Michelle Branch;
Not only does this song rock, but Michelle Branch is pretty as well! Yeah! What more would you want from a song?
Breakdown- Tantric;
A fast paced song with an acoustic guitar that actually sounds good, a rare combination. It's also a fantastic song to sing along to.
Learn to Fly- Foo Fighters;
I really like this song, but oddly enough, I can't think of defining adjectives for it. It's a song that just makes you feel good.
Elevation- U2;
I think I'll go out and just by U2's CD "All you can't leave behind". They write absolutely great stuff. This song was featured in the movie "Tomb Raider".
Since I currently don't have an online site which you can download songs from, if any of you wish to get one of these songs, either IM me, or email me, and I will get you this song one way or another, by burning you a cd, or some other media. This is inspired by The Truong's recent showing of generosity. I believe that under his gruff, crusty exterior, he has a good generous heart. =)
Here's to the Night- Eve 6;
This song was first suggested to me by Malia Wong! It has a very nostalgic tune and is a great nighttime song.
My Way- Limp Bizkit;
This is probably the hardest rock song that I like. It's been featured in the movie preview for "The Fast and the Furious", and it makes a great driving song!
Leaving Town - Dexter Freebish ;
Except for the fact that I have no girl, this song explains exactly how I feel, nostalgia and all. Awesome stuff.
Perfect
Day - Collective Soul;
This upbeat song features Elton John. Collective Soul is quite a talented band, with other good songs like: The World I Know, and Run. Kinda similar to U2 in how they make good "happy" songs. They are probably "the best band you didn't know that you liked".
Shine - Collective Soul;
A relatively old song, but still very memorable.
Walk On - U2;
Yet another U2 song gets this prestigious spot on my site. There's a reason why they won grammy's for best song and best album. Absolutely wonderful stuff.
Follow Me - Uncle Kracker;
Except for the small section in the song that encourages adultery, the song is really good. Its a very light spirited song that is extremely catchy.
Butterfly - Crazy Town;
Though I usually don't songs from the rap genre, I just really like this song. I just think the repeating guitar theme is just really awesome.
Pachelbel's Canon- Rockapella;
Rockapella is the extremely talented men's cappella group that performed in "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?". This song shows utterly the amount of control and talent they possess. It's amazing. I wish I could be this good someday.
Hanging By A Moment - Lifehouse;
Full of expectation and promise of the future.
Clubbed to Death - Rob D;
A neat Techno song from the Matrix, which actually has some pretty piano chorus's mixed in. Definitely worth listening to the whole thing. It starred in a Nissan Commercial and also the Variety Show.
If You're Gone - Matchbox 20;
Though the chorus gets a little repetitive, the lyrics for this songs are really awesome. I wish I could sing rock songs, but I have a "pretty choir boy" voice which under years of grooming has trouble singing songs like this. I tried, and I sing it too "nicely".
Lady in Red - Chris Deburg;
What I'm feeling right now is actually quite easy to decipher. Listen to this song. Then imagine it without the woman. You're just sitting on the side alone. That's the feeling.
Cosmic Castaway - Electrasy;
This is a really cool song from Titan AE. A alternative song with a techno-ish beat. The mood is pretty hard to nail down with words, so listen to the song.
Beautiful Day - U2;
Just look outside . . .
I don't need women, everything is good and happy. Ahhhh. Freedom.
Play that Funky Music White Boy - Wild Cherry;
Yeehaw! Its Carnival/Variety Show time at Punahou, and Im having a blast! I will post pictures once I get them developed. As for my general mood, I hope you'll be able to infer it from the song.
I Disappear - Metallica ;
This song has awesome guitar progressions and lyrics. I think the lyrics most accurately display my general mood at the moment. Got it off Napster.
O Magnum Mysterium - Morten Lauridsen;
A hauntingly beautiful choral masterpiece, Magnum Mysterium is one of my absolute favorite songs. When I listen to this song, I feel awed at its wonder, but also feel a deep sadness. Listen to it, and you'll know what I mean.
Everything You Want - Vertical Horizon;
Agh. This song represents what I feel
about prom and about my (nonexistent) love life in general. I applied early
hoping for increased chances of admission, and got early rejection. Ouch.
